Expert Witness

Rodney Hyman and his team have supported solicitors, multinational organisations and Australian nationals and national organisations for more than 20 years, providing advisory reports and detailed evidence in courts.

One of the most challenging areas facing valuers is retrospective valuations where empirical evidence is difficult to source. I and my team specialise in this space and have developed procedures and protocols for dealing with this challenging area.

Pre-loss valuations are a specialty. I and my team have carried out retrospective pre-loss or pre-accident valuations including in one case a rural property with homestead, panel beating business, vintage cars and other assets amounting to more than 3,000 spreadsheet lines and more than 10,000 assets 5 years’ retrospectively. In other cases we have assessed assets as diverse as a Venetian Glass Chandelier, a 3 year old dark green Porsche with zero kilometres, a bucket wheel excavator in Indonesia and perhaps the most challenging, the entire gold mining camp and equipment “stolen” in the Central African Republic (following a government coup).

Pre-accident valuations of “wheeled” assets from motor cars, to truck, trailers and all manner of “yellow goods” are carried out on a weekly basis. RHAS has the biggest practice in Australia in this space, valuing more than 100 claims each year both for loss adjusters and from the insured.
